In 2010, a new sex education curriculum was introduced by the Ontario Liberal Government then led by Dalton McGuinty. The curriculum was met with much objection by Ontario parents as it was proposed to cover issues like sexual orientation in Grade 3, masturbation in Grade 6 and oral and anal sex in Grade 7 and 8.
The parents spoke loud and clear. The government decided to pull the curriculum.
Now, the curriculum is back upon some updates and revisions. This curriculum is set to be taught in schools starting this September.
Magdalene John is joined by MPP Monte McNaughton and Rick Hiemstra, Director, Research and Media Relations for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada as they discuss what could be included in the new curriculum and why many parents are concerned.
If you are concerned The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada's website identifies ways you can make your voice heard by writing your local MPP, Minister of Education Liz Sandals and Education Critics of the two opposition parties. A sample letter can also be found on their website.
Let's engage ourselves in the conversation about our concerns regarding the Ontario sex education curriculum
