So I did something I have never done before! I stepped out of my comfort zone and my living room and went to the gym for the very first time! I have to say it was terrifying! I have always had a preconceived idea of the gym! You know what I mean! A big place with very intimidating equipment and very intimidating people all walking around fit and confident! I just didn't think me and my extra 20 pounds would fit in. But I bit the bullet, bought some new gym clothes (any excuse to shop!) and headed to my first workout at GoodLife Fitness ,my official fitness partner for Project Fit, and I survived! 1 hour later, sweaty and tired I had conquered a fear I had for so many years! So how and why did I do it? Here are 3 reasons:
1. I had to make myself a priority, for so long as a mother and wife I have made everyone else a priority, making sure everyone else was taken care of while I slowly packed on the weight. I needed to move up the priority list.
2. I had to be brave. Yeah it would be a new experience and yes it would mean looking dumb sometimes and asking a lot of questions, but I'm worth it!
3. The future! So many times I have said to myself as I've looked in the mirror that I have to lose weight and maybe for the next couple of days I've starved myself or done a workout or two and then given up and cuddled up with a bag of chips and then the cycle would start all over again! I needed to think about the future, being happy with myself and thinking of the long run gains not the short term satisfactions.
We are worth it Project Fitters!! You can do it! If you have never set foot in a gym before join me on this journey by trying your local gym out, there is something thrilling about being amongst other people who are working out as well! You might be pleasantly surprised!
